Why Microsoft sucks

Because Redhat linux, Suse, mandrake, ubutu, centox, linspire, etc are all out there for free. They are all one in the same and totally different. They are all buckets full of GNU apps holding from the linux kernel. Best of all, because they kick the sh#$# out of XP and long-vista-hornXP2000SE3.02008 or what ever the new name for the old app winders is going to use next.

Besides all the apps, you can add stuff yourself. If you took a programming class, or have any logic in the brain at all, you can probably make a program of some kind that runs on linux easily. All you need to do this is given to you for free. So this GNU freedom is yours as a user right.

one day in 2003 windows gave me a nice screen of death. The very next day I was downloading RedHat linux. I had read about it on Computer edge, but never had a free computer to see what it was. At the time, I didn't have an idea of what it looked like or what I could do with it. I didn't even know if I Could run windows along with it. But since all my stuff was gone, and I had some time, I thought "why not!"... well, not really. I spent the night looking to download a good start distro. Mandrake was too commercial (I did try it later) Redhat was free to download (but later forked into enterprise and Fedora in a weird way that I didn't like). Anyway, what was in my head was "This one is the last one fu$%$n microsoft Princes of Krup" and I wanted out badly. Next day at around 12 noon, my download finished and my cd's were already burnt. So I shut down my sis's computer and I went to mine. It was off, but I swear, the stuff on the surface of my hard rive was making noices like the exorcist.

Comparing this to the first time I installed winders, this was 10 times... maybe 100 fold better. I mean, you get a graphical interface!! no freeking command line that scares newbies off. Now a days you get a desktop!! not a freeking command line. When it is done, you get the most beautiful memory efficient graphical interface. (you can also get a beautiful most useful command line that you'll learn to love. It is not useless and crappy like the winder's one. Why waste memory on a gui if you can learn a few commands that do exactly the same thing). You can choose from many of these graphical interfaces. There is KED, or KDE, sorry, GNOME, XFACE, and there are those that are no like winder's in that they are almost fixed in aspect and function. There are graphical interfaces that you can modify to your heart's desire... well you can also modify KDE, GNOME and Xface, but I think they are soo nice that they need no mods as they are. Well, I may sound wishi washi here, but you can modify anything on linux and GNU. I'm not talking about colors/resolution/font size here, I'm talking about deep changes in form and function.

Well, my 1000 words up there (maybe less) can be surpassed by a simple jump with stumble upon for a picture of ubuntu in action or even better, do a jump for a xgl in video. This thing is fantastic to no end. If ever one of you big guys, stumbles upon this blog, I am deeply thankful to you for the freedom that has been given to me. To you all who are attached to your play station, when you get tired of the same stupid game, try to write a mod to it. You will wish you had linux so you could do it that week and not go to jail for it.

have I taken advantage of this freedom? Yeah! I learned Perl basics in a few days and I wrote stuff on my linux machine to use at work (on a horrible piece of junk running XP. XP makes it a horrible piece of junk, the machine is super 3ghz dual core 4 gigs). I also made a translator for STL to GEO for OpenFlower a flow solver and I posted it on that site. That and I have a cool 4 computer seamless network at home and a cool desktop. Also one of those is a mythbox/ubutu combo that I use as an entertainment system for games and movies and the like.
